Vermon’s fully-populated matrix array probe is typically composed of 1024 small active small elements, each electrically isolated and arranged in a 2D matrix array. By controlling the time and sequence at which the individual transducer elements are fired, the resulting ultrasound beams can be steered along two directions in the elevational or lateral (azimuthal) directions. By rapidly steering the beam to generate a series of scan lines at varying directions from one side of the transducer to the other, a volume format image is produced.
The integration of breakthrough technology lies in the large number of elements matrix configuration, providing both quantitative and qualitative 3D real-time volumetric data for preclinical ultra-fast and super-resolution imaging in research projects.

Row-Column Array (RCA) probes are composed of two orthogonal 1D array, each connected with either the rows or the columns. This configurations results in a 2D transducer array, where each transducer element is identified by its row or column index. RCA probe can be defined as an alternative matrix array type enabling the acquisition of 3D real-time volumetric data with a reduced number of elements without a prohibitive number of connections.
